None of these three devices were fleshed out properly in my opinion. However, the delivery of the plot, narration, and world building were just ok. The relationships between all the different races made the premise intriguing. That is not to say, however, that all entities view Grim Reapers as neutral - humans and Guardians (a lower level Angel) of course do not wish their lives to end and so regard Reapers as evil. *I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest reviewĭeath has a Daughter is interesting in that it talks of Grim Reapers that are neither good or evil but are just doing their jobs - collecting souls of humans who are near death or experience a near-death experience. YA lovers, this is a book you might want to check out. I enjoyed the story and the ending left me curious about book 2.ĭeath Has a Daughter was an enjoyable YA read. On the bright side, though, there were plenty of surprises along the way, quite a few secrets that I didn't expect. Like, how is it that a reaper daughter was never born, in all the centuries of reaper history? I wanted more explanation. Also, I wish the world of Reapers and guardian angels had been more fleshed out. The plot was well paced and I was kept interested the entire way through, though I wasn't totally drawn in. And, after that ending, I wonder how things would work out. The potential love interest was Trevor, but things were way too complicated for things to progress much farther than infatuation. All the other characters, Drake, Dave, Cendall's father, were interesting as well. Trevor was the guardian angel and he was sweet. She had her own mind and her independent thinking led her to unexpected secrets. Cendall was very tough, very clever, and definitely a formidable opponent. With the light, yet sweet romance and the unexpected secrets, this book was lovely.Īll the characters were great. But as the three of them are forced to work together, Cendall begins to question why Lacie is wanted by the Demons and if her name actually belonged on Cendall’s list in the first place.Īn action-packed, enjoyable YA read, Death Has a Daughter was great. Cendall agrees-with the intention of checking Lacie’s soul off her list, the instant the Guardian is healed. Realizing Cendall fears termination for her mistake, the Guardian blackmails her with an offer she can’t refuse: in exchange for his silence, Cendall must keep Lacie’s soul safe from the Demon, until he recovers from his injuries. In the chaos, Cendall accidently saves Lacie’s soul, along with one of the injured Guardians. However, nothing could have prepared Cendall for Lacie-a soul that is protected by multiple Guardians, wanted by Demons, and, most startling of all, can see Cendall.Ĭendall uses every trick in the book to try and slip past Lacie’s Guardians and collect her soul, but a Demon interferes at the last moment. The only obstacle in her way are those pesky Guardian Angels who protect human souls, but Cendall is certain she can handle any Guardian who gets in her way. Cendall, history’s first female Grim Reaper, has until her eighteenth birthday to prove she’s worthy of the role.
